Run of the Mill 5k and Walk - Mill Creek Washington

That’s right!! After a couple years, we are back!

Cascade Stride is excited and honored to announce we are bringing back the Run of the Mill 5k and Walk to Mill Creek Town Center, September 14th, 2025!!

You must have a ton of questions. How did this happen? Who is Cascade Stride? What’s the race going to look like? Will it still be fun? Let’s get these questions answered shall we?

First, let’s start with the Run of the Mill (ROTM) 5k and Walk itself. The ROTM was ran by a local Mill Creek personality and business owner Steve Knox. Steve put the event on for over 15 years and built it into the incredible event that what it was. Steve and his team spent endless hours making sure this community event was something special. Something runners AND spectators both looked forward too. A truly great community focused event.

Then COVID hits.

I don’t need to go into specifics about what happen next, but pretty much everything shut down for two years. The run was tried again in 2022, but it was clear, people were not ready to get back out and hit the pavement just yet.

At the same time Steve the event organizer was moving out of state, so it was really difficult trying to organize a local event from the other side of the country. So the Run of the Mill 5k just sat here…waiting.

This is where we came in. First, who are “we”. We are Cascade Stride. We are a event wellness company that focuses on putting on races, run, bike rides…if it is a wellness event, we put them on.

Cascade Stride’s principal managing partner is Ron Montague. Ron live in Edmonds and is a seasoned veteran when it comes to putting on running events. He as been putting them on for years and he specialty is operational logistics.

Ron has assembled a group of operational folks that take care of day of operations, marketing and promotion. We are a lean group who love what we do and it really starts with Ron. His passion for putting on community events is incredible. Just watch Ron day of the race, in between putting out a million fires, you can see in his eyes, he loves what he does and that love trickles down to the rest of his team.

Anyhow, Ron had one of us reach out to Steve and see why he was not working on the run any further, one thing led to another and after many calls and Steve’s insistence for us to focus on community and quality, Steve handed the run over to Cascade Stride to continue the tradition of the Run of the Mill 5k.

Here we are. New website, new social media, same desire to put on a great event. In the future I hope to use this blog to give folks an update on where the race is at, what we are doing and what we could use help with. Even though we have not had our own race in Mill Creek, Ron has been helping The Girls on the Run race here in Mill Creek for years, so we know the course, we know the area. Now we just need to get to know the businesses and the people of Mill Creek. Feel free to reach out any time and we can answer any questions you might have.
